Press conference Thursday on strike plans

PRESS CONFERENCE TOMORROW - MAIN MALL - 12:30pm - BRIEFING ON STRIKE PLANS...

On Thursday, April 28, 2011, members of Mount Hood Community College’s full-time faculty association will hold a short press briefing to outline plans as the Association moves toward a possible strike next month.

Sara Williams, MHCC full-time faculty association president, will give remarks beginning at 12:30 p.m. at the Main Mall on the MHCC Campus. The Main Mall is the area in front of the campus bookstore, next to the flagpoles. The press briefing is open to members of the media.

“Our decision to move forward with strike plans is not an easy one to make. Over the course of more than a year of bargaining, MHCC faculty members have made tremendous concessions in an attempt to protect the learning environment of our students,” said Sara Williams. “While we’re hopeful the College will work with us to find a settlement before we reach a strike date, we cannot continue to put our families, our careers, and our community at risk, should the college decide to impose their contract.”

The faculty association voted on April 6 to authorize their Bargaining Team members to call a strike. Under Oregon Labor Law, the Association must provide at least 10 days written notice to the employer before going out on strike.
